Top 5 tips to help you feel confident in your swimwear

Whilst the majority of people spend the entire winter season longing for summer, there are others who dread the holiday season coming round. The reason? Because it means they’re going to have to get into their swimwear once again.

So many women dread putting on their swimsuit for fear of showing the public their lumps and bumps, as well as their cellulite. However, we all need to realise that no one on this earth is perfect and that everyone else on the beach, beside the pool or sunning themselves on the loungers are going to have body issues.

So, how can you feel more confident when wearing your swimsuit?

1. Find a way to relax

You may think this is easier said than done; however, it really isn’t that hard. We do things we enjoy on a daily basis, which help us forget our worries. So much so in fact that there are times when hours just fly by. So, next time you’re dreading wearing your bathing suit in public, put it on and start doing something you love, whether that involves reading by the pool, playing ping pong, cards or simply walking your dog.

The happier you are, the more lost you will become in your activity and you will forget about what you’re wearing. When you relax, you stop thinking about how you look and just live for the moment.

2. Give yourself a pep talk
This really does work but you have to believe in what you are saying. Don’t lie to yourself…if you have cellulite, don’t say to yourself you don’t. Say something instead like, “OK, so I have some cellulite on my thighs, who doesn’t? I’m not looking at anyone else’s, so why am I worried people are staring at mine?” Tell yourself you feel good in what you’re wearing and it will make a difference in your posture, your walk and even the expression on your face.

3.Make a playlist you love and listen to it

Music is a wonderful thing. It can help people come out of depressive, angry or sad states and can also make you feel confident. When you’re listening to music you love, music that makes you feel good about yourself and life in general, it is very hard to focus on how self-conscious you are. Create a feel-good playlist and make sure you’re listening to it as you get changed and on-route to wherever you’re going in your swimming costume.

Music is extremely portable these days, so there is no excuse not to have it on you whether at the beach or sunning yourself by the pool.

4. Correct your posture
Being aware of how you’re sitting and standing is really important when you’re feeling self-conscious about how much flesh you have on show. Sitting or standing upright, with a straight back when in your swimwear will make you look slimmer, as well as taller. It’s also a lot better for your spine, so as well as looking the business in your costume, you should also be feeling the health benefits too.

It may also be a good idea to wear some wedges with your costume, as not only do these add height and flatter your body shape but they can help you stand straighter too.

5. Wear additional beach/poolside clothes
One of the easiest ways to build up confidence when wearing a revealing swimming costume is to wear a sarong or a kaftan. You can wear them all the time without looking out of place, wherever you are, for they are meant for wearing on top of bikinis and other swimwear. You can find a huge range of these, from barely visible material to thick cotton, so the more confident you get, the more see-through your sarong or kaftan can be; until you are so confident you no longer need to wear one.

Many people like to try and keep up with the latest fashions and trends. In today’s society, there is a real pressure to look good and keep up with what is happening in the world of style and fashion. This no doubt that retail therapy, even in these tough times is still a popular past time, but what about when it starts to spiral out of control? If you’re starting to spend more than you can afford on a regular basis, buying stuff you don’t really need, then it’s entirely possible that you could be suffering from shopping addiction.

Shopping addiction, or to give it its proper name, Oniomania, is a condition that many people struggle to take seriously stop they may regard it as an indulgence of spendthrifts, or the territory of woman who liked to traipse around the shops all day. Some people may also see it as they preserve of the rich and famous, WAG’s and for those who don’t need to work for a living. Shopping addiction is far more common than many people think and the warning signs and symptoms may not be as obvious as you’d imagine.

Shopping addicts get a “buzz” from spending money. Someone who is addicted to shopping may buy things they don’t need, want, and they may not even like at their pipes is again after buying them. Indeed, many shopping addicts suffer a kind of “blackout” when they are shopping and may not fully realise exactly what they are doing. Shopping addiction can become a vicious cycle, as the sufferer users shopping as a coping mechanism offer comfort. The guilt and shame they feel after a shopping spree may make them want to start the whole process all over again and soon the addict is caught in a never ending cycle just like any other addiction.

The shopping addict may find that the shop alone so others aren’t aware of their problem. They may hide their purchases often receipts will also be had in and even bank statements as they try to hide their addiction from those closest to them. Trying to confront someone with an addiction is never easy. They may deny there is a problem even when, deep down, that they have become powerless over their spending habits.

Not having the actual physical clashed is spend may not stop someone who is addicted to shopping. They may run up debts on credit cards, store cards and have hefty overdrafts. Spending more than they can afford the financial impact of this condition should not be underestimated. Again the stress and worry over their precarious finances may be enough to send them my shopping yet again, and the euphoria they feel buying more stuff that they don’t need will give them temporary comfort.

In order to help treat shopping addiction, professional help may be required. Cognitive behavioural therapy is very useful in treating oniomania and looks that the reasons that prompted them to turn to shopping for comfort. Addiction is regarded as a progressive disease and one that cannot be cured but can be treated by learning to manage behaviours and other ways to deal with depression and low moods.

Starting running as a complete novice can be a daunting task for many people. Maybe you saw the New York marathon on TV recently or perhaps your friend down the street is always out there, hitting the road. You see these people being fit and healthy and they’re often talking about how wonderful it feels to have that endorphin kick from their daily exercise. Now you’ve been inspired – but, where do you start?

You can read up all about running, talk to people at your local gym for training ideas or go to your local sportswear shop to ask about what gear you need. These are all good things to do if you’re a complete beginner. You should even chat to your doctor before starting, just to make sure your body can handle the exercise. However, at some point you’re going to need to get out there and start moving.

Take up running this summer and feel alive

Before you get started on your road to running fitness, there are 3 things that you should take into account:

Wear the right kit – While it isn’t important to have all of the fancy equipment or expensive technical clothing, it is vital to have the right running shoes for your foot type. You need to take the time to get the proper fit and support in order to avoid injuries that could stop you before you even get started. When looking for your footwear, it’s important shop at a retailer that has a range of brands and knowledgeable staff, for example Totalsports in South Africa.

Get a training program – Just simply hitting the road is definitely the harder method of getting into jogging. It’s highly advisable to get a proper schedule that takes you from only being able to run for a minute to being able to complete 5km comfortably. There are plenty of these to be found by a quick online search for “how to start running”. However, make sure you get one that breaks you in gently with more walking than running and then slowly changes the ratio.

Join a club – You know the saying “two heads are better than one”? Well, this is definitely true for getting fit. Exercising with a partner will help you to stay motivated and keep going. Additionally, if you join one of the running clubs in your area, you’ll be able to get advice from people who have already experienced what you’re going through.

The most important thing to remember when you take up running is that you’re doing this for you. If it becomes a chore or you do too much and end up injuring yourself, there’s no point as you won’t be getting what you need out of the sport. Remember, if you’re wondering how to start running, the first step is to make it fun.

Lezandre Joubert achieved her provincial and national colours in both biathle and netball. After recovering from a knee injury, she started running again and now competes in triathlons and multi-sports events, such as the Totalsports Challenge.

Every woman loves a nice, tall pair of ultra-waterproof rain boots to romp around in puddles in all springtime long. With so many choices in rain boots from prints and patterns to solids and plaids, there’s so much that goes into choosing a look for your rain boots that reflects little pieces of each woman’s personality, while still keeping her feet impeccably dry. The fact is, patterns trigger emotions, so which patterns and prints you choose can say a lot about who you are and what you are feeling.

Ever wonder what your choice in rain boots could say about your personality? Well, wonder no more! Because here are what some of the prints that you choose for your springtime BFFs for your feet say about the person wearing them.

Classic Polka Dots

Polka dots are quite possibly one of the most classic looks when it comes to patterns for any type of clothing or accessory, especially rain boots. Yellow boots with white polka dots, red boots with white dots, blue boots with yellow dots…ahh, the possibilities are endless!

So what does this cutesy pattern say about the personality of the person rocking them on their feet? Well, polka dots typically signify someone who’s fun-loving and very young at heart. The pattern itself triggers happy feelings in general, so the person wearing them loud and proud is likely outgoing and fun to be around. They might be goofy and giggly, and they probably are willing to try just about anything.

Solid Red

A classic “fireman” look when it comes to rain boots, the solid red boots can signify a number of different things when it comes to the personality of the wearer. For starters, red is typically the color of both power and sexuality. It represents fire and passion, so be ready for someone wearing red rain boots to present themselves very confidently without hesitation.

The color red can also symbolize courage and strength, so someone brave enough to wear this color on their feet are likely to be very self-confident, very strong and very sure of themselves. The fiery aspect of the color red usually shows through in a personality when it comes time to try new things – red wearers are usually up for challenges and adventures!

Vertical Stripes

People who sport the vertical stripe look when it comes to their rain boots are considered to be very forward, assertive and ambitious. Think about the classic pinstripe look and what it’s always symbolized – power. Well, the same holds true even when it comes to the big, fat vertical stripes found on so many popular styles of rain boots!

Be ready for the wearer of these boots to be very forward with you and be very confident in themselves.

Floral Patterns

How cute are the boots that are all one color with little tiny flower prints all over them? Or even the large floral prints that are now becoming popular with the springtime having arrived in full swing? Well, people who wear floral patterns usually tend to be outgoing and “people people” – meaning they get along with just about anyone they meet and they like to be in large crowds, mingling and talking with anyone and everyone they can find.

The floral also signifies a big of sophistication, as well, as not everyone can wear a pattern such as this. These people that do are usually the center of attention at a party, or even the guest of honor.

Horizontal Stripes

Horizontal stripes are a difficult pattern to rock no matter where it’s found in what you’re wearing, but people who dare work this look are usually very definitive and have very strong opinions. It takes a lot of confidence to wear horizontal stripes, so the person usually knows what they want and what they stand for. They won’t take any nonsense from anyone!

Solid Yellow

Solid yellow rain boots are simply classics – even Curious George wore them with pride! So what do solid yellow boots say about the wearer? Well, yellow is typically the color of sunshine, so it usually depicts a person’s sunny outlook on life, despite whatever “bad weather” may be “raining” down on them (ha – get it?!).

People who wear yellow with pride are usually very happy as a whole, and they spread their happiness with whoever is around them. The color itself produces a warming effect that spreads easily and rapidly – so be ready to feel happy around someone wearing yellow rain boots!

The Woolmark Prize is a competition that has been on-going for several months now. Fashion is a dog-eat-dog industry and so any opportunity that allows you to relatively quickly get a foot up on your peers is golden. The Woolmark Prize presents this opportunity to fashion designers around the world and with the final being held at London Fashion Week AW13, there’s no doubt as a winner your name will spread around fashion circles in no time at all. The man of the moment in this regard is Christian Wijnants.

Ewe Win!

Wijnants is a Belgian fashion designer who represented Europe amongst the global finalists. His prize is a quite tidy sum of 100,000 Australian dollars and on top of that his works will be gracing hangers in top retailers around the world, most notably:

Joyce in China;

10 Corso Como in Italy;

Harvey Nichols in the UK;

Eickoff in Germany;

Bergdorf Goodman in the US

Then it’s back to the home of the Woolmark Company, where David Jones will host Wijnants’ winning collection later this year.

Counting Sheep

The International Woolmark Prize is an initiative orchestrated by the Woolmark Company, primarily to highlight the beauty, value and versatility of Merino wool fibre. As it stands, wool produced in Australia accounts for 90% of the international supply of wool fibre.

A ‘Woold’ Renowned Competition

The structure of the competition saw over 70 nominees be selected by various fashion industry authorities from around the globe, after which a winner was announced in five respective regions: Europe, US, China, India and Australia. Thereafter it was up to the panel of judges to decide who would leave the ME London on the 16th of February all smiles. The panel was comprised of:

Victoria Beckham

Diane Von Furstenberg,

Donatella Versace

Nathalie Massanet

You know that things are looking up for you when you’ve got Victoria Beckham judging your quality of work and the only thing more noticeable than Wijnants woven works of art was the state of the ex-Spice Girl. She appeared as gaunt as they come and with the paparazzi clambering over each other to get their snap, you couldn’t help but feel that SHE might snap should she have been knocked over by one of them.

All in all the International Woolmark Prize provided some incredibly inspired items, which is what you would have expected from designers who have actively beat out the competition to be granted such an opportunity.

Dave Peterson has had an eye for fashion from a young age. He would get hold of his mother’s sewing kit and fashion his own creations. Although he doesn’t know too much about the process, he’s travelled to enough fashion events around the world to tell you a thing or two about designer suits.

If you aren’t a big wearer of accessories but you like to experiment more with jewellery, bags, belts and shoes, now is the perfect time to do it. The spring/summer 2013 season is all about accessories, so there are lots to choose from.

To get you started on picking out and wearing accessories this spring, follow these tips:

Give yourself an ‘accessories score’. It can be hard to know whether you’re wearing too many or too few accessories with a particular outfit, but one way to judge it is by giving yourself a point for each accessory worn. This means a point for every earring, shoe, bracelet, necklace, pair of patterned tights, belt, bag and scarf. Even sunglasses count as one point. You should be aiming for at least 5 points in one outfit, but never more than 15.

Remember that size is important when choosing accessories. When picking out accessories, bear your shape and height in mind. For example, if you’re petite, a huge handbag will swamp your frame. If you have a small face, a huge pair of earrings could be far too distracting. You want to be wearing the accessories; you don’t want them to wear you.

Know when and when not to match. This is one of the biggest dilemmas when choosing accessories – whether or not everything should match. The answer to this is that it’s all about balance. You should be aiming to stick to a certain colour palette, choosing to match a handful of colours within your whole outfit rather than just matching your accessories. Aim to match one or two accessories and keep the rest neutral (i.e. in nude, gold, silver, or even black colours).

Don’t be a trend-slave when it comes to colours. Certain colours may be in this season (i.e. neon, greens and black and white combinations), but this doesn’t necessarily mean that these are the tones for you. For example, popular leggings colours at the moment might be black and white stripes, but if you have very thin legs, these will only make your legs look like twigs (and not in a good way!). You should only choose accessories in colours that suit you and which complement your outfit.

Think outside the box and go beyond the obvious. It’s easy to fall into a pattern with accessories, throwing on the same necklaces and handbags with every outfit. The beauty of accessories though is that they allow you to be creative, experiment and customise your outfit. They also allow you to bring any outfit right up-to-date with a surprising splash of colour or a key motif or trend of the season. This is why you should think beyond the obvious when choosing accessories and go for something a bit different.

Scrubs in the past featured almost no color, shape or style, but that trend has changed a lot today. Now you can purchase scrubs in an unimaginable amount of styles and colors, including patters, so you can feel beautiful while wearing these comfort uniform. If you’re a fashion forward medical worker, here are some of the latest trends in nursing uniform.

Designer Wear Anyone?

A lot of big name designers are now including scrub wear in their line of clothing. Why shouldn’t they? Millions of medical workers from around the world wear scrubs and smart designers want to get their fair share of this billion dollar market. If you’re into designer clothing, there’s no reason why that cannot extend to your scrub wear. You can find scrubs made by designers like Kimora Lee Simmons for Baby Phat, Dickies (both the W and Hip Hop collections), Sierra, Apple Bottoms, Katherine Heigl, Grey’s Anatomy and Urbane Scrubs Essentials. These designer scrubs are made to fit a variety of shapes and sizes and come a great colors, patterns and styles.

Crosses and Skulls For Edgy Nurses

Most medical workers won’t take the chance to wear scrubs with skulls printed on them, but if that’s your style, you’ll love the selection offered by a few manufacturers. Some of them feature bright piping around the pockets and neck to make the scrubs even more eye-catching. You can also choose their cross bone printed scrubs with the empire waist and front pockets.

Solids are always in

Some people love to stick to solid colors instead of the skulls and crossbones and other patterns. That’s okay because solids come in a variety of styles to make them stand out. The shades match the season, so you can change the solids you use several times throughout the year. You can find solid scrubs in faux wrap front, empire waist, v-neck, round neck and square necked styles. Some have pockets at the front and others leave them out altogether. Some are pined at the back to emphasize your shape while others have tucked in areas just under the breast so they’re figure flattering. The goal is to make the scrubs as figure flattering as possible while maintaining a sense of comfort.

Choose your pant style

You want to look good on top, but with several options for pant styles you can look great on the bottom too. You can purchase scrub bottoms in a pant cut that flatters your shape. Flat front pants with an elastic back provide the same comfort but give you a shape in the front of your uniform.

Flare leg pants are an option if you prefer wider pant legs. Keep in mind that they should not be so long that they drag on the hospital floors where they will get soiled or fray.

Bootcut and straight leg styles are also available. Bootcut are suitable for taller people while the straight leg pant styles are best if you’re petite.

Now, more than ever, people are more pressed to be fashionable. It used to be a lifestyle pursued by those who either worked in the industry, or were enthusiasts; but now it has become another means of expression, bleeding into places we hadn’t previously thought it would – foremost, into art, and then, into self-expression.

Trends change as the seasons do, as quickly as one’s mood does, depending on where one is going, who one is going with, what time of day it is.. whether one is having dinner with family, or with friends, or with a romantic prospect… whether one is going to the mall, or to the cinema… or if it is the first day of school, if there’s a job interview this afternoon, or it’s a regular day at work with a movie to cap it off tonight… (you get the picture)— you cannot possibly be expected to wear the same outfit everyday. It sounds daunting (and maybe even impractical) when you think about it, and if you are a working student with barely enough to pay for food and bills and transportation, then necessity dictates that you (just go with it and) wear a modified potato sack each day, to work and school, so you could save what little you have for the things you really need.

But fashion need not be a dilemma for the practical individual. With a little ingenuity, it can be well within one’s reach. Here are a few strategies to get us off the ground:

Shop for free

Granted, this first option involves no money at all, which is good for any of us. Plus, it is one that has been reverted to time and again: shopping in someone else’s closet. Like at any rummage sale, if you look long and hard enough, you will most likely walk away with something useful.

What comes to mind is usually Sister’s or Female Cousin’s, but what with the prevalence of vintage fashion these days, it would no longer be suicide to rummage through Mother’s, Aunt’s or Grandmother’s as well. Moreover, today’s androgynous age means that Brother’s and Uncle’s wardrobes are no longer exempt from interest.

Trends come and go, and then come again. And trends from years (and years) ago have re-arrived. When you think about it, any season’s current fashion is merely a reinterpretation of past ones. Making use of someone else’s lain away clothes is fashionably sound, and financially better, than shopping for new ones outside.

Swap clothes

Siblings usually do this, admittedly not without some sneakiness and strain on the “borrowing” sibling’s part. Nowadays, though, it can be done more legitimately, and with much more open fun, through a swap party. A swap party is where friends or acquaintances get together to exchange things in their wardrobe that they no longer have use for.

One girl’s old sash is another one’s guilty pleasure. Plan a productive afternoon, with roommates, classmates, old friends, and friends from work. Call over your sister’s friends (and maybe your sister too). Keep it to a manageable size (7 to 15 is a good range), and bring out a few snacks you could all enjoy without soiling the clothes.

With some genius and a little help, we help ourselves and our friends, too.

Shop cheap

Now, if it happens that Mother’s closet is too far away to raid, or if you need a better tank to go with that scarf from the swap party, then it must be time to hit the high streets. Thrift stores are great, often harboring unique finds amid bundles of used clothes, for eight to twelve dollars apiece. Consignment shops, on the other hand, offer new and unused stock, as do warehouse stores that sell last quarter’s unsold merchandise and this year’s overruns. There is also the occasional clearance sale at the end of a fashion season, where most items are practically given away at half the regular price, if not less.

On other days, when you’re not shopping or swapping, it helps to review the contents of your wardrobe, and consider your outfits in advance.

Invest in basics, that can be used over and over, and with anything. Stock up on basic tees, cardigans, pants, shorts, and skirts, in neutrals and in dark blues. Old Hollywood star, Marlene Dietrich, once said, that to be well-dressed for the rest of the year, one need only have a couple of black, and navy-colored blouses, and sweaters, and a dark-colored dress.

Invest in a few statement pieces that can be used to accentuate plain clothes. It takes some practice, but keep an eye out for ones that are usable with not just one or two outfits. A loud pair of flip-flops; a gypsy necklace; a hippie beret; a gentleman’s hat; a tie-dyed scarf… (you get the picture).

In general, it is safe to invest in clothes that you can wear in layers, or can wear again and again, without anybody noticing.

You may be strapped for a clothing budget, and stuck in a wardrobe rut, but in today’s world, smarts are as good as wads of cash, when the enterprise you’re in is that of being fashionable.

Sharon Sussman works at Brilliance, LLC, a dealer of fine diamonds and affordable custom-made jewelry. Sharon believes that fashion is for everyone, and should allow us to be true to ourselves. She’d love to hear your comments as well!

March 20 is the first day of spring for the Northern Hemisphere, so don’t be surprised if, in the next few days, you start to feel an itching feeling in your nose, throat and eyes. The pollen-filled air can make it difficult for those who suffer from hay fever – including somewhere in the range of 15% to 20% of the world’s population – to enjoy the outdoors in this, the prettiest of seasons. Take heed of these 10 useful tips and make your hay fever worries a thing of the past.

Antihistamines

Belonging firmly at the top of the list, antihistamines are the best way to reduce symptoms of hay fever, unless you have a negative reaction to them. Whether you take antihistamines in the form of a nasal spray or capsules, they’re a powerful way to reduce your body’s allergic reaction to air-borne pollen.

Nasal balm

Along with itching eyes, hay fever comes with the frustration of a runny nose. Besides keeping your Kleenex handy, you may want to treat the rims and inside of your nose with some nasal balm. Often made from natural extracts like beeswax, aloe vera juice or seed oils, a nasal balm can help to soothe the broken skin caused by having to constantly blow your nose.

Eucalyptus

If you suffer from chest congestion in spring, try placing your head over a bowl of very hot water that contains crushed eucalyptus, and use a towel to keep all the steam in. The natural oils of the eucalyptus leaf have a pleasant fragrance and, together with the steam, do a great job of relieving nasal and chest congestion.

Air purifiers

If you live in an area where there’s lots of plant life, there’s a good chance that being indoors won’t be enough to keep you safe from pollen. In these situations, an air purifier can help to clear pollen, dust and other potential allergy-causing particles from the air in your home.

Vitamin C

Never underestimate the power of vitamin C. Whether you take it as a supplement or by increasing your intake of foods like citrus fruits, vitamin C can help ease wheezing and the production of mucus.

Honey

Honey can help to ease the throat irritation from having to constantly clear your throat. Many also use honey as a regular addition to their diets to prevent throat irritation from occurring in the first place.

Protecting your eyes

Wearing glasses and rinsing your eyes regularly, especially after you’ve been outside, can help to reduce eye irritation and itchiness. This is especially important for people who wear contact lenses – nothing is worse than the discomfort of a contact lens on a dry eye!

Corticosteroids

Corticosteroids in nasal sprays perform similar functions to antihistamines, but act locally in the nasal region. Corticosteroids typically take effect only within three to seven hours, and work best when used consistently over a period of time.

Nasal air guards

For those who must be outside even at the height of the allergy season, nasal air guards are a possible solution. Fitting inside the nose, they form a barrier to pollen and other allergens.

Experimental treatments

Desensitisation to allergy-causing pollens via immunotherapy treatment is increasing in popularity. The treatment involves administering minute amounts of pollen in the form of tablets or injections, and incrementally increasing the dose over a three-year period. This slowly increases your body’s natural tolerance to the allergens.

Texture in 2013 has evolved from being much more than a question of softness versus hardness and smoothness versus roughness. As Vogue shows in the “Floral Tribute” trend report, relief prints, embroidery and embellishments are all the rage this spring. Putting the floral trend aside, other designers are using mesh, leather, fur and faux fur in new and different ways this year.

Kitsch Fashion

To define Kitsch art is an incredibly difficult thing and to relate it to fashion is even more challenging. For the purpose of simplicity, we can define Kitsch as an art movement that involves excessive garnishes, decoration and sentimentality. It often involves a gesture or acknowledgement back to 1950’s and 1960’s cultural icons and trends. Kitsch art has become popular with an alternative crowd over the past decade, and I see this year’s floral texture trend as an extension of this artistic trend. The way that these pieces and accessories have become 3D and pop with adorned and garnished flowers seems to be a nod to this look. The best example of this would be Prada’s new thick framed, 1950’s shaped glasses that had mini plastic daisy protruding from just above the lens: if that’s not kitsch fashion, I don’t know what is.

High Street Textures

It is generally accepted that the way that fashion works is that runways and high fashion designers create an ideal and high street retailers put out a toned down version of that. So, how does this flamboyant kitsch trend get translated to high street fashion? The easiest way this 3D trend has been translated down to retailers and high street fashion is through embroidery, detail embellishment, and vintage inspired prints. Looks like lace colors, understated 1950’s prints, vibrant and large 1960’s prints, and pop culture references in t-shirts and other printed apparel are all manifestations of this trend, and all involve texture work and consideration.

Other Textures

Mesh, leather, fur, feathers and faux fur have been important in the 2012-2013 fall/winter season and will continue to be for the rest of 2013. We’ve seen leather apparel expand beyond just bomber jackets into women’s shorts, legging and skirts for a variety of occasions. Often leather is featured in combination with another material to add flexibility or a two-toned look. Mesh apparel, or mesh combined with another material will be key as we move into the warmer months. This trend has developed as a contrast to kitschy or ultra feminine lace, and it is gender neutral for the modern urban woman.

This is just an introduction to the different textures that will be important to fashion in 2013.
